Mammoth Cave

Mammoth Cave

This morning we started out early to head up to our reserved tour of Mammouth Cave. Bob went there when he was a kid with his family but for the rest of us it was a brand new adventure!!  We hit some traffic and were running late so I called them and tried to figure out what we could do as it looked like we were going to miss our tour. We were able to move our tour to the next one and the kids would be able to attend the Jr. Ranger event before our tour.

We were all very excited as we arrived at the cave. It was nothing like I expected it to be. We were able to walk around the visitor center and explore the area that described the cave. They even had a movie that explained the history of the cave. It was very interesting how over the past 4,000 years various cave explorers have discovered more and more of the cave. They are still discovering new parts of the cave!!

We went on the Frozen Niagra tour. It was at the New Entrance of the cave. It was short but beautiful!!! Just going to the cave was worth the trip!!

So I suppose you would like to see some pictures of the cave huh?!! LOL

After the tour, all of the kids finished their requirements to be Jr. Rangers. They each received a Jr. Rangers hat, badge, and certificate. It was very exciting!!

We then walked down to the main entrance of the cave. This entrance was the original natural entrance to the cave. I don't think the pictures can quite capture the awesome beauty and enormity of the entrance.

As we were walking back to the visitor center and the car, we were the only ones walking on the trail at that time. As we were part way up the trail we saw a beautiful Doe!! God put her there just for us as we were the only ones who saw her!! We were able to watch her for about 5 minutes before she wandered off and other people started coming up and down the trail.  It was just another way that God is blessing our trip here in Tennessee!!
